SCCSD Announces Superintendent Finalists

Sioux City, Iowa – The Sioux City Community School District has announced Dr. Juan Córdova and Dr. Corey Seymour as the final two candidates for the District’s superintendent position.

Córdova currently serves as the assistant superintendent of instruction for Hazelwood School District in Florissant, Missouri. In his current position, he oversees 10 elementary schools and three early childhood centers. Under Córdova’s leadership, Hazelwood School District expanded from three early childhood centers to 29 full day classrooms across the district. He also leads the district’s professional development, English Language Learners, and federal programs.

Prior to his current role, Córdova served as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Grandview C4 School District in Grandview, Missouri and held leadership positions at school districts in North Carolina and Florida.

Córdova holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He earned a master’s degree in social studies education from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

Seymour currently serves as superintendent of schools for Clear Creek Amana Community School District in Oxford, Iowa. In his current position, he oversees nine schools, including six elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and a preschool center. Under his leadership, Clear Creek Amana has increased its graduation rate by five percent and achieved an eight percent growth in math and English language arts and reading district wide. The district’s kindergarten readiness has also increased by 10 percent.

Prior to his current role, Seymour served as executive director of leadership for Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas and held leadership positions at school districts in Oregon and Texas.

Seymour earned his doctorate in organizational psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and religion from Rice University also in Houston, Texas.

The public is invited to hear from the superintendent candidates during separate community forums on Thursday, February 6 in room 118 of the Educational Service Center, located at 627 4th Street in downtown Sioux City. Free street parking around the Educational Service Center is available beginning at 5 pm. Córdova will be present for questions from 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm; Seymour will be present for questions from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm.

Facilitated by executive search firm GR Recruiting, the District’s superintendent search began in the fall of 2024 with community surveys, followed by in-person input sessions with district staff, students, and the public. The Board of Directors of the Sioux City Community School District is expected to announce its selection of the District’s new superintendent in early February. The new superintendent will assume his position for the 2025-2026 school year.
